Sébastien Breguet

Cello

Born in 1984, Sébastien Breguet began playing the cello at the age of 6, studying with Pierre-Bernard Sudan and then Simon Zeller at the Fribourg Conservatoire. In 2005, he obtained his teaching diploma from Philippe Mermoud, and three years later his concert diploma with ‘congratulations from the jury’ in Patrick Demenga's class at the Haute Ecole de Musique de Lausanne. He then went on to perfect his skills with cellist Guido Schiefen during a year of intensive lessons, and at the same time in Paris with the Trio Wanderer. Winner of the ‘Pierre et Renée Glasson’ prize, he has taken numerous master classes throughout Europe with musicians such as Gyula Stuller, Gabor Takacs, the Fine Art Quartet and the Alban Berg Quartet.

He has been a member of the Trio Ganymède, with whom he has performed at numerous events, including the Swiss Chamber Music Festival Adelboden and the Festival de piano de la Roque d'Anthéron. The trio has also won prizes in a number of competitions, including the Orpheus Swiss Chamber Music Competition, the Jeunesses Musicales Suisse ‘Géraldine Whittaker Prize’ and the SUISA Foundation Prize at the Lyceum Club International Chamber Music Competition in Lausanne.

Sébastien is currently solo cellist with the Orchestre de chambre Fribourgeois. Since 2020, together with Pierre-Dominique Bourgkecht, he has created a lecture-show with which he performs between Switzerland and France with the aim of democratising classical music.

As a teacher, he taught for 10 years at the Giffers music school and regularly gives courses for adults and children. Since 2023 he has been a teacher with the Staccato ensemble, an ensemble for young people aged 7 to 13. He also teaches privately and regularly organises cello ensemble days.
